Reefodivers Diani and its partner organization Reefolution attended the seventh Sea Turtle Festival, hosted by the Olive Ridley Project at Diamonds Leisure Golf Club, Diani. The public event brought together marine organisations, community members, BMUs, and schools to raise awareness about sea turtle protection and marine conservation.
Building on these community efforts, the day was filled with fun, activity-led experiences designed to engage children while adding an educational twist to traditional games. One such activity was the egg race, which sought to teach children about the fragility and importance of sea turtle eggs. The afternoon had special performances by the different schools showcasing their original plays and songs about sea turtles.
Our stand at the festival aimed to introduce more people to coral restoration efforts along the south coast of Kenya and educate them about their importance. In partnership with Reefolution, our hybrid team offered a diverse range of activities focused on coral restoration and immersed children in the underwater world through our VR headsets. A large number of children visited our booth, many of whom were unaware of coral reefs and the benefits they provide.
We hope they left the festival knowing a little more about this hidden ecosystem, which serves as the backbone of countless marine organisms and supports the livelihoods of many people.
We were greatly honored to be given a platform by the Olive Ridley Project, which provided us the opportunity to raise awareness about coral restoration among the next generation.
